For the past 10 years, PRAAC has hosted Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: Athabasca. Usually held at the Athabasca Riverfront, the 2nd Friday in September, this fun, yet serious event not only raised awareness of relationship abuse/family violence in our community; but it was also a major fundraiser to raise funds to financially support the THRIVE program…Athabasca and area’s LOCAL relationship abuse program.
The THRIVE program is currently funded through a variety of government grants, social agency partnerships, and community support through the fundraising projects of PRAAC; primarily the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: Athabasca event. In the last few years, government grants have become less and less; and to maintain the hours of the program, PRAAC has been asked to provide a higher financial contribution. For 2021 PRAAC has committed to raising $23,000 to maintain the current THRIVE program hours.
COVID-19 has changed our community in many ways; and unfortunately, the THRIVE program has experienced an increase in clientele in the past year and a half. And the need to keep the THRIVE program at the current hours of operation is crucial for the health of our community.
Our 2021 event is now over and we are happy to announce that we have raised $22,263 for the THRIVE program as of December 13, 2021.
